A Day in the Life of a Pet Sitter

I can normally see about 10-12 clients in one day.

Preparation before leaving home each morning is a critical part of ensuring how smoothly my day goes.

I double check that I have all Registration Forms and job contracts and keys needed for all of the clients that have a visit booked for today.

Before I leave home, I ensure I are wearing comfortable shoes, have dog poo bags ready and a rain coat if rain if forecast. I am now ready to begin and normally I find myself leaving home at about 9am.

The day is made up of many different pet combinations. Dogs only, cats only, a combination of both, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish and chickens are all pets booked in for pet care today. I try to have 6 jobs completed before I have lunch, just to make the afternoon not so busy.

Every job sees me collecting mail, walking dogs as needed, feeding all pets, supplying fresh water, cleaning up dog poo, changing kitty litter, putting rubbish bins both out and in, watering plants and basically just giving all of the gorgeous pets lots of human contact and love and affection.

Today none of the pets seem to be too anxious or nervous, although I am sure they will be happy to see their owners when they return. One Doberman was particularly strong on the lead today, but otherwise all other dogs were well behaved.

I plan my lunch around visiting my only new client for today. I turn up to her house on time at 1.00pm. This meeting lasts 15 minutes, all goes well, I have her sign and complete a Registration Form and I collect a front door key from her.

I have lunch thereafter, complete my other jobs and I am home – albeit a little leg tired - at 4.45pm. I take my shoes off and relax on the sofa for a while. I do not bother going through all my paperwork tonight, I do that in the mornings.

The busier I get, the more people have my phone number, so I make a point each night to turn my phone off at 7pm each night. Everyone needs some down time!
